SoundCentral x Black Throne Productions

We’re proud to announce a new collaboration which has been long in the works between Sound Central (Montreal) Black Throne and our affiliate organization, Doompress Studios - BTP’s in-house screen printing shop based out of Grimsby, Ontario,

This isn’t a one-off novelty drop, it’s a limited run made in support of an independent record shop that has spent years holding space for underground music, community, and culture.

Sound Central has been a long time staple in the Montreal scene, not just as a record store, but as a space that keeps people connected with both local bands and many different forms of media as a whole. Working with Shawn on this felt natural and long overdue!

There’s more in the works beyond this!! Read below for some backstory on SoundCentral and stay tuned for other announcements we have on the way.

These shirts are available directly through Sound Central, if you’re a vinyl collector or supporter of DIY infrastructure, and keeping the scenes alive, this is a simple way to support a long-time contributor.

All proceeds go directly to support Sound Central. Click the picture above or below to check out the webshop and scroll down for some backstory from the owner!

From Shawn:

On Labour Day 2001, “Le Nouveau Soundcentral” came to be.

SC occupied over 2000 sqft above the legendary venue/community centre know as L'X, situated on Saint-Catherine and Hotel de Ville.  This was a beautiful partnership between two floors of all types and variants of music appreciation, anything from hardcore shows to techno parties.

In fact, we even had “The Locust” do an in-store at the Sound before having to relocate in 2004. This led to the Saint-Denis location. It was short lived and was not conducive to the times.

Downloading and streaming had peaked and being that rent had double that of the prior location, SC had to get rad, so to speak..

continued below

In 2007, SC found a new location. Now finding itself on Coloniale and Mont-Royal (originally a garage and HQs to the world renown Weider family and was also the birth house of the barbell, built out of car wheels and axles). Soundcentral has taken the torch of MTL pride, quality and has kept with tradition with the underground look and aesthetic and brought it to well into the new millennium.

More recently and prior to the pandemic the shop has had the great privilege to welcome Revolution514 (core skate shop) to share the space and everything that comes with it.

Unfortunately, late May 2024, unforeseen circumstances forced both businesses to relocate.

Soundcentral is currently looking for that prime location to establish yet another chapter in brick & mortar history. Until then, you can enjoy and count on our online site the same way one did with the physical shop.

Soundcentral nears its 25th year with no signs of slowing down or stopping anytime soon.  You can rely on the Montreal-centric quality and community that SC has been know to provide through out the years!

Thanks to all of those of you for the genuine support over the last two decades and looking forward to the decades to come.”
